Introduction Good practice is carried out in a common area but in a rural context.

Throughout history cinema has always been a point of support, as well as a distraction or evasion of reality; but the idea of seeing cinema is a reflection about social problems, so we created this proposal.

Under the premise of wanting to prevent certain stigmas and work through social problem screen directly related to the target group to which it is directed. (Elderly people).

Today, society is getting older (and even more so in rural areas). Therefore, it is important to work with this group and carry out actions aimed at improving their quality of life in different aspects of their characteristics. As well as giving them a vision of reality and showing them that they are not alone and that their concerns are common.

The aim of cinema is to generate habits of observation, reflection, analysis, understanding and interpretation through critical thinking; taking advantage of the potential of the image as a playful moment to generate personal projections based on values and attitudes that can influence the individual and the group.

Partner(s) and Stakeholders

This good practice is carried out by the technician of CEAS directed to elderly people of rural areas. This is the reason because it can be changed and adapted step by step depending on the different necessities these changes are based on new necessities of the people involved, the territory the different characteristics of each group.

Methodological Approach

The methodology is participatory and playful, we will develop he workshop through dialogue and critical analysis, it permits the group, turns to an enhance group cohesion, disinhibition and communication.

There are several sessions, one day a week. In each session we will post a film and comment, as well as will be valued with a technical sheet and will propose films that deal with themes relevant to the group or themes that you would like.

Some of the films proposed are:

  • “COCO” (to analyze ways of coping with death)
  • “THE INTERM”, to analyze how to continue assets and what we can contribute after getting bigger
  • “IT-S NOW OR NEVER”, to see how it is never too late to put our differences aside and live our dreams
  • “GRANDPARENTS”, where we can observe how life changes us
  • “CINEMA PARADISO”, to make us aware of the importance of intergenerational relations

It is an activity without cost for the participants, they go out and spend a good time with other elder people.

Innovation and Success Factors

This project it can be developed by anyone who knows how motivate the participation of elderly people. Moreover, it can be carried out on the internet. People can watch the film at home and after that the person who is developing the activity can create a discussion forum on the internet (zoom, facetime, teams…). This permit work with people in time of pandemic, people without mobility and people who are recuperating.

Constraints

The only one problem is when the debate starts, the people who are participating talk more and sometimes the problem is that people don´t follow the item.

Other problem is the access to internet and how to use the different tolols which are necessary to watch the film.

Lessons learned

Sometimes they are not conscious about how a film is a demonstration of their reality.

The project is economically sustainable, it has no huge costs, only the place and how obtain the film.
