Eldery People
To carry out good practice with the ederly in rural áreas because now, the society ins grownig older (even more in rural áreas), it is estimated that in Spain in 2050 the elderly will make up 31.9% of the total population.
Older people make contributions in all areas of modern society, whether in the economy (pensions, consume products and services,…), they contribute to the support of the welfare state (they take care of grandchildren or dependent people, they volunteer,…) or in the culture; for all these reason social policy responses are needed, such as an increase in resources in pensions and socio-health services, promoting intergenerational relations, eliminating age discrimination and stopping seeing the elderly as passive objects.
According to the Alzheimer León Association, the concept of citizenship is based on networking, the community has to move forward to address problems, thus managing to take advantage of resources one hundred percent.
It is important to encourage citizen participation to create social cohesion.
Citizen participation requirements:
For all this and added to the times of pandemic in which we currently live, from the CEAS of Villafranca and Puente de Domingo Flórez we want to carry out an Active Aging Project based on the “CLOSE TO YOU” Project created and launched successfully from the CEAS of Cacabelos).
The Projet idea it´s created and executed by the same person (CEAS Social Educator/ Community entretanor) for participants (early people of rural área. The project may be modified and adjusted during his implementation according to the participants´ needs. This protect is about that activities to keep their minds active
The methodology is active but individually. To carry out the project, the CEAS social workers will make a list of people they consider appropriate to develop it. Later, they will pass the contact to the Social Educator / Community Animator, who will contact the users to confirm their participation.
The participants will go to the CEAS by appointment once a month to collect the files and a telephone follow-up will be carried out, also, if necessary, they could go to the home to make an explanation or make an appointment at the CEAS itself.
The chips will be for constant cognitive training, as well as entertainment for users. On the other hand, they will be given a mandala per month.
It is about carrying out the workshop based on activities to prevent cognitive deterioration.
The results are beneficial, since activities are carried out to facilitate the cognitive development of the elderly, through good practice which for tgem, it´s playful and that part is rewarded despite working in different áreas.
Also, they made the exercises at home, with continuous monitoring and among the neighbors themselves they called each other to discuss the exercises, it served as motivation after a moment of pandemic
The impact is positive because we have the project in their environment and participatory. It is beneficial, as that seek a better quality of life.
Better yet, it is developed by the CEAS it will be free of charge for the participants. They Will be able get away from the routine without leaving their environment.
This project can be done by any professional, answering questions. The person who develops it must motivate the group and create a space of trust, for which it is best to get involved in the activities. The best thing about the project is that it involves doing activities that put them to the test and makes them think and improve their cognitive development in an entertaining and fun way.)
It is not an obstacle as such, but it is a small difficulty, it is that by having it as homework and not doing it in a group sometimes, the participants do not try enough.
The title is that age is a matter of the mind, because age is in reality a number. Obviously, there are people who have added difficulties due to age, but with patience all outflowing. When we get older, behaviors and minds return to the innocence and thoughts of childhood, motivation makes them strive and be constant, working on different areas in an entertaining way.
In reference to the costs, it is economically sustainable because it does not have high costs, only photocopies.
The key for a practice to be sustainable from an economic, social and environmental point of view is that it be useful, practical, appealing to the participants, low cost and in the right environment.
As has been pointed out throughout the table, this good practice can be replicated in any rural or urban area. The most important thing is the predisposition of the person who directs the activity and of the assistants, as well as an active participation by all the members.
The impact is positive and the learning is reciprocal during the development of the project, both by the participants and by the person who guides the activities. It is also a rewarding job when you see the reactions and the affection, they show you after the project.
